Oh baby, what a cold night last night, got down to 21!!! Thank goodness we had plenty of propane for the furnace. Saweet and toasty. Got up to 70 today while we were out hiking. Hiked a couple of slot canyons - Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch. Only took about 3 hours. The day was young at about 2 PM, so Vaughan had to take us to see something else. We went to the Paria "ranger" office and got directions to hike to something called the Nautilus. It;s not a big thing, but a very delicate rock formation. They don't advertise this hike because they do not want a bunch of people out there. Too many visitors would wreck the formation. If you ask them, they will give you directions, all verbal, nothing written down. We had a tough time finding it, but persevered and was rewarded with a neat sandstone colored rock cliff that you could walk through like a slot canyon, but much smaller.
We are now back to the RV, enjoying some wine, cheese and salami! Nothing better than that! Tomorrow, we are going to an area that you need to get a permit, we won one in a lottery this morning, called Coyote Butte South. This will be more driving off road in Vaughan's jeep, only four wheel drive vehicles allowed, versus hiking. We just hope we do not get stuck in the deep sand we have to go through. Should be interesting. We still go to the Land Management office each morning to try and get one of ten daily permits to visit The Vermillion Cliffs, known as the Wave. We keep our fingers crossed every morning - over 100 people looking for those 10 spots daily.
Here are a few pics:
